About me

My Story: I’m originally from the gulf coast of Alabama, but lived in Orlando from 2002 until April 2020, when my wife and I relocated to San Diego, CA. In Orlando I attended the University of Central Florida (UCF) for both of my undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and Computer Science.

I attended law school at the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in Orlando, where I was a member of the Moot Court Honors Board, participating in the 2008 Domenick L. Gabrielli Family Law Moot Court Competition, and the 2009 San Diego School of Law National Criminal Procedure Tournament. I’m proud to say that I earned a 75% scholarship at Barry School of Law by being academically part of the top 10% of my class during my tenure in law school as well.

My 3L year I served as a Certified Legal Intern for the State Attorney’s office of the 9th Judicial Circuit, seated in Orlando, Florida, where I was lucky enough to conduct two trials, which is fairly uncommon since approximately 98% of all criminal cases plead out. I met my wife in 2009 while still in law school on a cruise, which is so cliche` I can’t believe it happened, but I’m very happy it did. After graduation I was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2010.

Immediately after law school I worked for a medium sized firm in Orlando practicing civil litigation for two years, primarily in real property litigation. A few years later, I started my own practice with two partners. My role was to manage cases that were either already in, or were going to be, in active litigation, and I was fortunate to be able to practice in a variety of legal fields such as criminal law, civil and criminal injunctions, family law, adoption law, contract, real property, and bankruptcy.

After 7 years of general practice I discovered that I wanted to merge my love of science and technology with my legal experiences, so I went back to my alma mater UCF to begin the road to becoming a patent attorney. After three years of full-time undergraduate work, I’m pleased to say that I was successful and obtained my B.S. in Computer Science, making the academic honors list the entirety of my senior season, and subsequently passing the patent bar on my first try.

My wife and I recently moved from Orlando to San Diego where she took on a new role, and I am actively looking for opportunities in the intellectual property field, especially areas involving software IP: so patent prosecution, copyright, licensing, trademark, IPR and PGR reviews, or IP litigation. I am registered to sit for the July 2020 California Bar exam which was recently moved to September 2020.

Aside from my professional interests and goals, my personal interests include being with my family which consists of my wife and our dog Charlie. My favorite past time is being the at home chef and traveling when we can. I love golf, but I’m admittedly terrible. This site satisfies my creative outlet to discuss topics that touch upon intellectual property law, computer science, philosophy, and the intersection of the three.

Current projects: the continuing development of this website; an article for the AILPA trade secrets committee on measuring damages as the result of trade secret violations which will be presented in August 2020; and a primer on open source licenses for the layman (part 1 available now).
